When was the first Illumination book published?

Answer:   In 1992.    It was a full length comic strip or ‘graphical novel’, created by Andy Roberts, a talented artist from The Cartoon Centre in London. He had never used a computer before, but found no difficulty in learning to draw and write using Illumination.

His book, “NERVOUS SYSTEM”, has around 140 pages in colour and is still, like all Illumination books, perfectly readable today.   In fact, if you have a PC which can be persuaded to use DOS (and which preferably has a diskette drive, since that is how the early Illumination books were issued) and if you care to write to me, I will be happy to email you a copy of Andy Roberts’ e-book which you can read for yourself.    It’s just under a megabyte in total size, including its built-in reading program.

E-mail me a question, and I’ll answer it here:-

NOTE: Incidentally (Unless there’s a prior and plausibly proven candidate) I lay claim, with the publication of “NERVOUS SYSTEM”, to have invented the e-book and, with it, e-publication in general.
